On Thursday June 2, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti signed the new budget for the fiscal year, allocating $138 million to housing and support services.

We were thrilled to see that the new budget is four times the amount of last year’s – a significant step toward ending homelessness for good in Los Angeles. Thanks to your advocacy and support, and the work of the Mayor’s Office and our City Council, we are closer than ever to putting permanent solutions in place.

DWC advocates, Amiyoko and Pam, attended the historic signing to show their support for the new budget. In her speech, Amiyoko reflects on her past and the way the Downtown Women’s Center’s resources have helped her and many others. She emphasizes that supportive services and compassion for homeless women is crucial in making effective change.

Thank you Mayor Garcetti, DWC’s Councilmember Jose Huizar, and the entire Los Angeles City Council for making important strides to end homelessness in our city!
