DWC Mourns Loss of Skid Row Resident

On Ending Homelessness for Women, the 2016 Election, and Hope for the Future

We are saddened by the tragic shooting of Kourtney Yochum yesterday in our community of Skid Row.

The Downtown Women’s Center mourns the loss of Kourtney, and we extend our deepest sympathy to her family, friends, and the residents and staff of the Gateways Apartments where she lived.

Every day at the Downtown Women’s Center we welcome through our doors women who have suffered unimaginable hardship and trauma, and yet who remain hopeful about their lives, and caring and supportive towards each other. Today, we reiterate our commitment to ensuring that all women in our community feel cared for and loved. To our sisters – we see you, and we are here for you.

Thank you to the many supporters who embrace our women and who stand with us in believing that one day, together, we will end homelessness for all women.

The Downtown Clergy Council has called a Prayer Vigil for Kourtney Yochum this Saturday, March 26th, at 3:00p.m. at 5th and San Pedro in front of the Gateways Apartments. All are welcome to join in community to remember Kourtney.
